Translating Evidence to Practice: Outcome Measures and High-Intensity Gait Training Post-Stroke

from $35.00

This course will provide background on the development of clinical practice guidelines through the American Physical Therapy Association, information about the clinical practice guidelines on a core set of outcome measures and improving locomotor function following chronic neurologic injury, and the process of translating that information to clinical practice in an inpatient rehabilitation unit through use of a framework. Specific examples of barriers and facilitators to the changes in clinical practice will be discussed, as well as interventions provided to improve utilization of the recommended assessments and interventions.

Objectives:

  • Describe the role of the Knowledge to Action Framework in applying evidence to practice.

  • Understand the goals of clinical practice guidelines and their associated task forces in shaping clinical practice.

  • State the outcome measures utilized in the Core Set of Outcome Measures for Adults with Neurologic Conditions

  • Describe the recommendations from the Clinical Practice Guideline to Improve Locomotor Function Following Chronic Neurologic Injury

Speaker:

Elnaz Nazmi, PT, DPT, has been a physical therapist since 2008. She obtained her Bachelor’s in Arts from the University of California at Davis and her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Boston University in 2008. She first achieved her neurologic clinical specialist certification in 2013 and renewed in 2024. Since graduation, she has been working almost exclusively in inpatient rehabilitation and has a passion for stroke rehabilitation. She is currently the therapy lead at Sutter Rehabilitation Institute in Roseville, CA. She was a participant in the 2023 Knowledge Translation Summit and she has recently enjoyed leading projects in translating evidence into clinical practice, particularly for standardization of outcome measures and implementation of high-intensity gait training.
