This 2-hour webinar will provide an easy-to-understand overview of how our state government is run and how laws are made that directly and indirectly impact the practice of physical therapy in California. You will hear how individual PTs and PTAs can have a direct impact on the actions of our state legislators. This course will provide insights into how one can participate in grass-root action to impact state laws and regulations and, hopefully, inspire the attendees to activate their citizen power.

Understand how an inspired idea becomes a law, and the difference between laws and regulations.
Understand how utilizing our power as individual citizens can impact the views of our elected officials.
Gain insight into examples of how California laws and regulations effect the practice of physical therapy and the payment for those services, and upcoming bills for 2025.
Gain inspiration to participate in the activities of the CPTA to impact legislative outcomes.
Speakers:
Chris Reed, PT, DPT, ATC is an outpatient orthopedic physical therapist with Agile Physical Therapy in Palo Alto, CA. He graduated with a BS in Exercise and Sports Sciences from Oregon State University in 1998 and received his Master of Physical Therapy from Mount Saint Mary’s College in 2000 and completed his DPT. Chris has been an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist since 2006. He has served in leadership roles with multiple organizations, including CPTA, throughout his career. Currently, Chris is the Chair of the Government Affairs Committee.
Oscar Gallardo, PT, DPT specializes in neurologic rehabilitation, community wellness and local and international physical therapy service and outreach. He graduated with a BA in Human Biodynamics in 1998 from UC Berkeley and received his Master of Science in PT from Boston University in 2003. He completed his DPT with Western University in 2014. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the California Physical Therapy Association (CPTA) as well as Federal Affairs Liaison on the Government Affairs Committee and chairs the CAL PT-PAC. In addition, he is an active member American Physical Therapy Association and its Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy where he has held several appointed committees. Dr. Gallardo is currently employed at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center and as Adjunct Instructor of Clinical Physical Therapy at the University of Southern California.
Carl London is CPTA's lead lobbyist. Mr. London has advocated on behalf of the CPTA for over twenty years and has extensive experience in grassroots advocacy, public policy and political action committee development. He completed his Bachelors of Science in Political Science at San Jose State University.
